Breathable Cement-Free Base Render for Heritage, Listed & Traditional Masonry. Mape-Antique NHL Eco Intonaco is a breathable, cement-free base render made from pure natural hydraulic lime and recycled material for use on existing masonry and new construction. It is designed for stone, brick, tuff and mixed walls, including those of historical and architectural interest, making it a strong choice for heritage restoration, listed building work and traditional breathable render systems.. It is particularly suited to rebuilding old lime-based render damaged by age or weathering, and to applying new internal or external transpirant render on walls not affected by capillary rising damp. Once mixed, it forms a plastic-thixotropic mortar that can be applied by rendering machine or by trowel on vertical surfaces and ceilings.. Key Features & Benefits. Substrate Preparation: Ensure masonry is clean, solid and free from loose material, dust, mould and soluble salts. Clean with low-pressure water jets if needed to remove efflorescence and salts.. Repairs Before Rendering: Patch voids and uneven areas with compatible materials before application.. Priming / First Coat on Difficult Walls: On porous, mixed, weak or difficult masonry, apply an initial 5mm coat of Mape-Antique NHL Eco Rinzaffo or Mape-Antique Rinzaffo to even out absorbency and improve bond.. Dampen the Background: Old walls should be saturated first, then allowed to become surface dry before rendering. If full saturation is not possible, dampen thoroughly.. Mixing: Best applied by rendering machine. For trowel application, mix mechanically in a cement mixer. Add approximately 4.75 litres of water per bag, then increase up to 5.25 litres if required.. Application: Apply in coats up to 30mm thick, starting from the lower part of the wall. If more than 30mm is required, apply in several coats.. Finishing: Level with a straight edge and finish with a plastic, wooden or sponge float after initial take-up.. Curing: Protect from direct sun and strong wind, and prevent rapid drying during the first 36-48 hours.. Finishing & Decoration. For a finer finish, use Mape-Antique NHL Eco Restaura or smoothing compounds from the Mape-Antique NHL Eco Rasante or Mape-Antique FC ranges.. If painting or applying a thin decorative coating, allow the render to cure fully, usually around 7 days per cm of thickness.. Compatible breathable finishing systems include Silexcolor and Silancolor products with their matching primers.. If left unpainted and exposed to rain, it may be protected with a breathable water repellent such as Antipluviol S or Antipluviol W.. Important Limitations. Not suitable for walls affected by capillary rising damp or sulphate salts; in those cases use the appropriate dehumidifying system instead.. Do not use for casting into formwork..
